“So, like I’m Rock Hudson? I’m not sure that’s the answer.” “Ah,” Lola smiles knowingly, “that’s all just a conspiracy theory. He enjoyed the ladies too.”

Conspiracy theory is a term that originally was a neutral descriptor for any claim of civil, criminal or political conspiracy. However, it has become largely pejorative and used almost exclusively to refer to any fringe theory which explains a historical or current event as the result of a secret plot by conspirators of almost superhuman power and cunning.

Conspiracy theories are viewed with skepticism and often ridiculed because they are seldom supported by any conclusive evidence and contrast with institutional analysis, which focuses on people's collective behavior in publicly known institutions, as recorded in scholarly material and mainstream media reports, to explain historical or current events, rather than speculate on the motives and actions of secretive coalitions of individuals.

The term is therefore often used dismissively in an attempt to characterize a belief as outlandishly false and held by a person judged to be a crank or a group confined to the lunatic fringe. Such characterization is often the subject of dispute due to its possible unfairness and inaccuracy.

In the United States of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, conspiracy theories have become commonplace in mass media. This has contributed to conspiracism emerging as a cultural phenomenon and the possible replacement of democracy by conspiracy as the dominant paradigm of political action in the public mind. According to anthropologists Todd Sanders and Harry G. West, "evidence suggests that a broad cross section of Americans today…gives credence to at least some conspiracy theories." Belief in conspiracy theories has therefore become a topic of interest for sociologists, psychologists and experts in folklore.

Why do peole still call it a conspiracy theory when there is an overwhelming evidence that its true?
Q. How can people call it a conspiracy theory when there is an overwhelming evidence, from motif to scientific examination, that 9/11 was set up by Bush and puppet master Cheney? Batgirl- See. That's the whole problem. People are all so closed minded, such as yourself, as they don't even go and research it. You might as well say we should stay in Iraq because they have those imaginary nuclear weapons.

A. Because people can't get it through their little heads that the government doesn"T want to help them!!! All the government wants to do is steal all your money and give it to poor people. I think these people watch too much Bourne. The current government is run by big corporations. 9/11 could have very possibly been an inside job. It's just that the majority of people are under the impression that their government loves them more than money.

What if the September 11th conspiracy theory was true?
Q. I don't believe that 911 were a "false flag", and this is simply a hypothetical question. What if it was found out that the 911 conspiracy theories were in fact true? What if the attack was actually planned out to get us into Iraq for oil? What do you think would happen if this became public and was shown as completely true? Would there be a revolution and uprising to overthrow the government or something else? How would you take it and view the government from then on? Also, remember this is just a curious "What If" question?

A. Another what if question. What if there were no democrates. Man how smooth things would be. Everyone would have a job and there would be no free handouts. Dude, how gallons of oil have we stolen from Iraq? 0 none nada
