Are Power bars really good for your body? Or, is it simply junk food?
Q. I have been eating power bars for breakfast ocassionally before my exercise science class because I want energy. However, I have noticed today as I browsed down the store shelf to purchase a power bar all the different flavors they have. They have cappicino, chocalate, berries and cream, etc. So, now I'm wondering if power bars are just another junk food? Are power bars really that good in nurtrition as they claim to be?

A. Dear, I must disappoint you and state that the too advertised Power bars are neither good for your body nor have the effect they are supposed to have. The opposite, it's quite frustrating that nobody talks about the nutritional side, if you wonder why, the answer is pretty easy: good advertisement strategy. They contain enough not healthy ingredients for your body, which in the long run could cause problems, they are full of carbohydrates, of too many flavors, colours, preservatives and are simply "artificial". Eat a handful of dried fruits ( especially apricots, figs) and you will be full of energy from natural sources. You are right, for me Power bars are simply junk food. Hope that is of help. Have a nice time!

What power would be required if the escalator has to carry twice the number of people?
Q. An office complex needs an escalator that can carry people, at a constant speed of 0.6 m/s at 35o slope. Calculate the maximum number of persons, each weighing 80 kg, if the maximum power input to the elevator is 10.8 kW. What power would be required if the escalator has to carry twice the number of people?

A. If this is a Physics question, then you can assume everything is lossless, and no safety factors are required. The sine of 35 degrees is about 0.57, so moving those people on the slope at 0.6 m/S is like moving them straight up at 0.57 * 0.6 m/S. From there, you can calculate the power needed to move one person of 80 kg at this rate. I remember a horsepower was 550 ft-lb/sec, but I'm sure there's a set value you can look up for kg-m/sec to kilowatts. And to carry twice as many people, twice the power input. If this is an Engineering problem, you will need to make additional real-world considerations about efficiency and design margin.

How to I figure out what power supply will fit my computer?
Q. I have a 240 watt power supply in my HP Compaq dc5000 MT computer. I have bought a game card that requires a higher watt power supply. I bought a 500 watt power supply but it didn't fit my computer. How do I get a power supply that is compatible with my computer? I keep going to different sites and none of them tell me anything that clears the question up. I just keep getting more confused. Someone please help.

A. Well first off, you can actually measure the outside dimensions of the old PSU and from there, use that as a guideline prior to purchasing a new one. In general most PSU are compatible in all most cases unless the original one is case specific for mini towers, slim cases, or server components. From the little information given sound like your old one was a mini or micro designed for a slim tower or mini desktop case. And if thats the case, you are also limited to the amount of power available to small PSU's. The problem here is the case and not the components, if you like to keep that case, you'll have to find a PSU that can fit in that case. Because you've already purchased the PSU, all you'll need is a new case, then its just a… [cont.]

However, and this is the supreme irony of it all, never before have musicians tried so hard to communicate with their audience, and never before has that communication been so deceiving. Music now seems hardly more than a somewhat clumsy excuse for the self-glorification of musicians and the growth of a new industrial sector.
